The track takes us to the Church of Santa Maria della Rotonda, on the top of the Macugnano’s hill that overlooks Agliè. It pays doing this walk, both for the visit at the nice little church of Medieval age and the wonderful views offered by this belvedere on the plains of the Lower Canavese. You can come here all year round; it’s really nice in the afternoon too, when you are able to enjoy spectacular sunsets with the Superga hill and the skyline of the Alps in the background, from the Maritime to the Monviso and the Gran Paradiso.
Along the way we have also reported some points of historical or natural interest, some of which will require a short detour from the path. The Sanctuary of Santa Maria houses a community centre, so here you won’t find an organized tourist structure but a hospitable welcome.
Please be careful to not go in the back yard of the church unless accompanied by someone of the structure: there are watchdogs!
The path is easily doable on foot; it’s also suitable for MTB but some parts are a little technical; beginners should expect to do some stretches on foot or choose the alternate route, which is mostly on asphalt.
